When I found out we had to pick an topic important to us to blog about, I had no hesitation in picking a topic that I’ve always cared a lot about…Animal rights. I’m not really sure what makes humans think they need to be so cruel to animals, but they are. I don’t know why innocent animals are treated worse than most criminals. They haven’t done anything to anyone. I’m not saying that we should just not eat or use any animal products (even though that would be nice) but, if the animals have to be killed, why can it not be done humanely? Why are the animals only valued as a profit and not as a life? And why is this such an overlooked issue? Well, I don’t know, I probably won’t ever know, but that doesn’t mean it should be ignored.
Yeah so I know the whole “It’s always been done this way” saying, but does that make the way it’s always been done right? Not really. I guess everyone is entitled to their own opinion of right and wrong, but I’m just not sure how anyone could see mistreating animals as right. After all, animals really aren’t ours to mistreat anyway.
There is, however many organizations to help stop animal cruelty of all kinds. PETA (www.peta.com) is probably the most known of these organizations. There is even a more teen friendly website called PETA2(www.peta2.com). There are all kinds of things you can do to help. Some of these things only take up to 5 minutes of your time. So whether you want to spend 5 minutes, a few hours, or your whole life to help this cause, Goveg.com has a very helpful list of things you can do at www.GoVeg.com/getactive.asp
